CALL TO ELECTION 2024
Welcome to the home page for the Tempe County Island Fire District (TCIFD). The TCIFD was formed in February 2008 to secure fire protection, emergency medical and associated emergency response services for the residents and property owners of the county islands within the City of Tempe municipal planning area. The City of Tempe Fire Department is the fire and emergency services provider for the TCIFD and provides these services pursuant to an intergovernmental agreement (IGA).
The TCIFD is an Arizona special taxing district formed and operated pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute (ARS) §48-851 et. al. The district is governed by a five member non-partisan elected board. The board members serve four-year staggered terms. The district is statutorily prohibited from acquiring and owning assets, employment of personnel, issuing long-term debt or the direct provision of fire services. The TCIFD exists for the sole purpose of obtaining fire and associated emergency services through IGA or contract. The district’s board is responsible for negotiating the fire service IGA, setting the annual budget, secondary property tax levy and tax rate. The district’s secondary property tax levy is used to pay for the fire services IGA and ancillary administrative costs.
Board meetings are held the 4th Monday of every other month at 1255 W Caroline Ln, Tempe, AZ. The meetings start at 5:45 pm and the public forum is held at the beginning of each meeting.
